Law # 7377 - September 30th, 1985
About the holding of the profession of
secretary and other actions.
The President of the Republic.
I pronounce that the National Congress determines and I approve the following law:
Art.1 - The holding of the profession of Secretary is ruled by the
present law.
Art.2 - To all intents of
this law, it is considered:
I - Executive Secretary - The professional with a degree at the Secretarial Course
(University degree), certified legally, in Brazil or in any other country whose
certificate can be revalidated in Brazil.
II - Technical Secretary - The professional with a certificate of a Secretarial Course
(Secondary degree).
Art.3 - It is assured the
right of holding the profession to those, although not graduated in the terms above
described, that have worked as secretary for, at least, five years uninterrupted, or ten
years total until the date this law is effective, and that have a superior or medium
academic degree.
Art.4 - The Executive
Secretary duties are:
I - Plan, organize and manage the secretarial services;
II - Give support and direct assistance to executives;
III - Gather information to accomplish the objectives and goals of the Company;
IV - Edit texts related to the job, inclusive in foreign languages;
V - Interpret and summarize texts and documents;
VI - Short-hand writing of lectures, presentations, inclusive in foreign languages;
VII - Translation of foreign languages to attend the needs of the company;
VIII - Catalog, register and distribute tasks;
IX - Evaluate and select mail to be sent to the supervision;
X - Knowledge of etiquette rules.
Art.5 - The Technical
Secretary duties are:
I - Organize and maintain the secretarial files:
II - Classify, register and distribute the mail;
III - Write and type routine letters or documents, inclusive in foreign languages;
IV - Do the office tasks, such as receive, register, take notes, write down appointments
and messages, answer telephone calls.
Atr.6 - To hold the
secretary job it is required a previous registration in the Labor Ministry which can be
done with the presentation of the secretarial degree certificate, (as per Art. 2 of this
law) and the Professional Card.
Single Paragraph. In the case of the professionals included in the Art. 3 of this Law, the
document will be the quotations in the Professional Card or any other proof recognized by
law.
Art. 7 - This law is
effective the date it is published.
Art. 8 - Any other clauses
are deprived of effect.
